Vance makes tasteless joke about being assassinated in awkward Bitcoin speech

Vice President JD Vance made a tasteless joke as he took to the Bitcoin 2025 stage. Making his first public appearance in Las Vegas on Wednesday since taking office, Vance told the audience: "The secret service is a bit nervous because I told them, 'These Bitcoin guys really like guns.' But they really like the President and Vice President of the United States too! I think we're doing ok." The joke was met with lukewarm applause as the gathered Crypto and tech bros awaited the rest of the speech, which focused on assuring the group that the Trump administration has their best interests in their sights. After his election, President Trump expressed his commitment to making the U.S. a global leader in cryptocurrencies, earning him accolades from industry leaders who felt the previous administration had unfairly targeted digital assets. Vance spent a large chunk of his speech time reiterating Trump's support, and claiming that Democrats tried to kill the industry. "I'm here today to say loud and clear, with President Trump, crypto finally has a champion and an ally in the White House," Vance said to polite applause. "In our administration, we understand the full potential of the digital assets industry, not just as an investment, not just as a flashy technology, but as a symbol and driver of personal liberty for all our citizens, and we are dedicated to seeing that promise fulfilled," Vance continued. "The way that we see it, the people in this room are the digital pioneers of the American economy. And that's why our administration is doing something a little unusual in Washington. We're listening to all of you as you blaze the trail of innovation," Vance went on, maintaining his professional demeanor. Then, getting angrier, Vance alleged that it is the 'communists' that 'don't like' crypto. "Because we want to start to put in motion the strategic importance of Bitcoin for the United States government. We know that the PRC doesn't like Bitcoin. The People's Republic of China doesn't like Bitcoin. Well, we should be asking ourselves why is that? Why is our biggest adversary such an opponent of Bitcoin?' Vance questioned. He also went on to allege that Republicans prefer crypto, while Democrats prefer AI investments. "You know, one of the ways you hear this stated is that crypto is fundamentally a conservative or right-leaning technology, and artificial intelligence is fundamentally left-leaning or a communist system," said the Vice President. "Now I think that overstates things a little bit in both directions, but there, there's a fundamental element of truth to it," Vance 'joked.' According to The Washington Post, Vance is also expected to attend a political fundraiser in Las Vegas on Tuesday, with admission set at a whopping $1 million donation per person.

Netflix's Cold Case The Tylenol Murders left me with these burning questions

*Warning - this article contains spoilers for Cold Case: The Tylenol Murders*. Netflix's newest true crime documentary delves into a chilling and morbidly intriguing case, but it has left me with more questions than answers. It can be somewhat exasperating when a docuseries doesn't provide all the answers, but that's just the nature of the beast sometimes. Particularly when the circumstances are shrouded in mystery. Back in 1982 in Chicago, at least seven people tragically lost their lives after consuming cyanide-laced Tylenol capsules. To this day, no one has been charged or held accountable for these deaths. Each episode explores the questions posed at the time and those that still linger. Speaking of, here are the burning ones the series left me with. Some victims were miles away from each other (Image: Netflix) Why label them as murders? Aside from the fact that it adds a dramatic flair, naturally. If the police had successfully charged and convicted someone for the poisonings, it would make sense to classify them as murders. Especially if their investigation had revealed a clear motive behind the culprit's actions. But even after spending considerable time discussing the life and deeds of James Lewis, the only named suspect, no motive is suggested. Isn't a motive necessary for a murder? The thought of a single individual randomly poisoning medications is truly horrifying. The reported deaths occurred miles apart, suggesting that the perpetrator may have travelled considerable distances and put in significant effort to poison bottles while concealing their actions. What was contained in the other extortion letters? James Lewis, featured in the documentary as the sole suspect behind the Tylenol deaths, was convicted of extortion. He confessed to authoring a letter demanding $1 million from the drug's manufacturers. In this letter, he allegedly stated that the killings would cease if the money was paid. For writing this letter, he served approximately 13 years in prison. However, this isn't the only letter he is said to have written. In 1981, when law enforcement searched his residence, they reportedly found multiple letters. Why would Lewis need to write various types of letters to different companies if he had tampered with Tylenol bottles? If he was indeed responsible, wouldn't he have written more than one letter to that specific company? The documentary reveals that this search took place in 1981, a year before the poisonings occurred. They also discovered a book about poisoning. Wouldn't the contents of the letters indicate if he planned to tamper with Tylenol bottles? Michelle Rosen in Cold Case The Tylenol Murders (Image: Netflix) What happened to James Lewis' wife? James Lewis claims he could confide anything in his wife. At one point, she was also listed as a wanted fugitive alongside her husband. However, she was never officially named as a suspect or charged by the police. Lewis suggests that his wife was livid when he told her about the extortion letter. It's unfortunate that the documentary producers persuaded Lewis to participate in the series but not his wife. Her perspective on everything that transpired would have been intriguing. While she might not have wanted to participate, the documentary doesn't clarify if this was the case. She was reportedly out of town when Lewis was discovered dead in their home in 2023. It's believed she continues to reside in their Massachusetts condo. Cold Case: The Tylenol Murders is streaming on Netflix

Seething Trump slams Putin for 'killing people' and claims 'something happened to this guy'

President Donald Trump slammed Russian President Vladimir Putin in a dramatic U-turn amid more sickening Russian attacks on Ukraine. Before boarding a plane to Joint Base Andrews in Washington DC Sunday, the Republican leader was asked by reporters about his relationship with Putin, which has soured as of late . Trump said he is considering more sanctions on Russia amid the war with Ukraine, but would not reveal the intimate details of his retaliation. "I'm not happy with what Putin is doing. He's killing a lot of people," said a furious Trump on the runway at Morristown Airport. "I don't know what the hell happened to Putin. I've known him a long time. I've always gotten along with him." Something happened to this guy. I don't like it at all. "We're in the middle of talking and he's shooting rockets in Kyiv and other cities. I'm very surprised." (Image: AP) Over the last couple of days, Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, and other regions came under a massive Russian drone-and-missile attack that killed at least 12 people and injured dozens. Ukrainian officials described it as the largest aerial assault since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. When asked by reporters what he's going to do about Putin, Trump added: "We'll see what we're going to do. What, am I going to tell you? You're the fake news. You're totally fake." (Image: AFP via Getty Images) This comes after a phone call between the two leaders centered on potential peace talks to resolve the Russia-initiated conflict in Ukraine. Trump reportedly made a promise to Putin, who is said to be 'confident' of annexing four Ukrainian regions. According to Yuri Ushakov, a Russian presidential aide, Trump pledged to be available for Putin's calls "anytime." Ushakov shared recorded comments with the press, revealing that the two leaders discussed the Ukrainian war and their nations' relationship , though no specific timeline for a ceasefire was established. Trump was said to be "losing patience" with Putin over his delaying tactics regarding a Ukrainian ceasefire. The US president is pushing to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, which began with Moscow's unlawful invasion in February 2022. Finnish President Alexander Stubb recently shared his thoughts on the issue at a security conference in Estonia, saying: "If we were to pull it together, we could say that Zelensky is patient and President Trump is starting to be impatient, but in the right direction, that is, towards Russia." Putin skipped peace talks in Istanbul earlier this month, instead sending diplomats to engage in brief discussions with Ukrainian officials. Ukraine's President Zelensky attended the event. "One thing he always talked about — he talked about those kids," Melvin said on TODAY about Ojeh. "He loved those kids more than anything else in this world, and was just so proud. He was that dad that was on the sideline at every soccer game. He was at all the concerts, the recitals. He was that guy, and they had such a beautiful love story."
